Who Is TMA?
The Texas Medical Association was organized by 35 physicians in 1853 to serve the people of Texas in matters of medical care, prevention and cure of disease, and the improvement of public health. Today, with more than 43,000 physician and medical student members, TMA's vision is still to "improve the health of all Texans." TMA supports Texas physicians by providing distinctive solutions to the challenges they encounter in the care of patients.
TMA 2009 Annual Report
As January 2009 dawned, the Texas Medical Association entered the year geared to take on familiar opponents: insurance companies, politicians, and bureaucrats who forgot they didn't go to medical school, and some who remembered but didn't care. It ended the year battling in Congress to add a dose of common sense to the debate over health system reform, and, once again, trying to stave off drastic practice-killing cuts to Medicare payments to physicians. 50-Year Club
The Board of Trustees of the Texas Medical Association approved the formation of a 50-Year Club in November 1984. Plans for the club, including forms of recognition, activities, and dues were developed under the direction of Dr. Paul R. Meyer.

Young Physician Section (YPS)
Join the YPS if you are a physician under the age of 40 or in your first eight years of practice. The YPS provides a means for young physicians to participate in activities and programs relevant to the physician just entering practice.
